Coventry Airport is fighting for permission to build a new terminal despite stiff opposition from locals who fear the noise pollution it could create, it has been reported.
The airport will take its fight to the high court this week as bosses lodge an appeal following the rejection of their five-year application to build the 10,000 sq metre terminal, according to the Leamington Observer.
Former secretary of state Ruth Kelly threw the plans out on environment and noise pollution grounds after a £1 million public inquiry.
Archy Muir, chair of the Campaign Against Expansion at Coventry Airport, told the publication he is confident the court will see no reason to overturn the decision already made.
Speaking to the local newspaper, the airport's chief executive Chris Orphanou, said: "With expanded facilities and the prospect of growth, we would be able to attract new carriers and offer a greater choice of destinations. We strongly believe success for the airport would mean success for the community."
It was reported by the Times earlier in the week that ice-cream vans in Worcester will have to adhere to new rules restricting their jingles after complaints over noise pollution.
