Plans to build 1,000 green homes in a Kent town have been given the go ahead, it has been reported.
Zed Homes have won planning permission for the housing scheme to build the eco home apartments in Ashford town centre, according to PropertyWeek.com.
Welcoming the decision, Michael Shwartz, the firm's managing director, told the publication the scheme likely to be developed in a joint venture with Genesis housing association is very exciting.
"We can create something unique and Ashford can become the most sustainable town in Europe," he added.
The firm also announced that 20 per cent of the green homes will be affordable.
Professional services company, Arup, is advising the developers on the eco homes elements of the scheme.
In other green homes news, it was reported last week by the Liverpool Daily Post that an £85-million eco homes development is to be built on the edge of the city centre.
Developer Viride Holdings will build 356 homes as well as restaurants, offices and shops in the seven nine-storey buildings.
