Vulnerable families across Birmingham have been given access to green homes grants to help towards the cost of insulation.
According to the Birmingham Mail, nearly 7,500 households in the city have benefited from npower's Health Through Warmth initiative since it was set up eight years ago.
Through the scheme, individuals or families thought to be facing a health risk as a result of living in a cold or damp house are put forward for funds towards a new boiler, insulation or double glazing.
Kenneth Stone and his wife Margaret told the paper they got help from the scheme's crisis fund in order to buy a new boiler when their central heating broke down.
"When the old boiler was condemned it was very difficult for my wife and I," said Mr Stone.
He added: "I now have the peace of mind that I can keep my home warm, particularly in the cold such as now, when my arthritis is at its worst."
Local authorities in the north-east of England warned earlier this year that around 500,000 houses in the region lack adequate loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and double glazing.
Double glazing windows and doors can increase the value of your property, as well as saving you money on your heating bills. Take a look at some of the Energy Efficiency-certified windows and doors on the Safestyle website.
