Former home secretary David Blunkett has visited a Sheffield refurbishment project to congratulate homeowners on their new double glazing, doors and kitchens.
According to 24dash.com, owners of the 500 Shiregreen houses were also treated to rewiring and new central heating as part of home improvements funded by Sanctuary Housing and a local building contractor.
Mr Blunkett, MP for Sheffield Brightside, spoke to Harold and Ann Mitchell about their new internal and external door additions, which had formed part of a "complete transformation".
"Not only was it a pleasure to experience their joy in having a home fit for the future with all mod cons, but the fact that they were so complimentary about the way the work had been planned and carried through," the former cabinet member told the news provider.
He went on to express his hope that more local residents will achieve the same outcome as the home improvements project continues in the coming months.
Housing association Sanctuary is in the second year of a five-year 'Decent Homes Plus' scheme on the Shiregreen estate, intended to modernise its 2,500 homes.
