Britain needs a green homes revolution in order to help the government meet its eco homes targets, one leading trade association has said.
The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) revealed action is needed in order to cut carbon emissions and make the nation's housing stock more energy efficient, according to aboutproperty.co.uk.
Brian Berry, FMB's director of external affairs, was speaking to the website following Gordon Brown's speech outlining plans for a £100 billion energy budget at the Low Carbon Summit yesterday (June 26th).
The government is failing to develop a strategy to deal with its the country's existing housing stock, he said.
"Given that homes are responsible for 27 per cent of the country's carbon emissions and that nearly 70 per cent of our current housing will still be standing in 2050 urgent action is needed now to make our homes greener and more energy efficient," he added.
In other eco homes news, it was reported in the independent earlier in the week that home improvements including the installation of double glazing windows and insulation can help halve heating bills.
