UK homeowners have so much to gain from insulating their homes that making the green improvement should be on everyone's New Year's resolution list.
That's according to the National Insulation Association (NIA), which represents the interests of manufacturers and installers of various kinds of insulating technologies.
Neil Marshall, chief executive of the NIA, noted that there are still over 13 million homes in the UK that lack adequate loft, cavity wall and double glazing insulation.
All such homes will invariably be paying higher electricity bills due to heat loss, Mr Marshall noted, which in turn increases energy waste and contributes to the UK's damaging greenhouse gas emission.
"I think a lot of people are just not aware of the savings and benefits that are available," he speculated. "If their New Year's resolution is to do their bit to save their bills and help reduce climate change, then great stuff."
Private dwellings are currently responsible for 27 per cent of the UK's carbon emissions but the government has set a target of making all new homes zero carbon by 2016.
