Residents of the Buckinghamshire town of Aylesbury are being reminded about the wide range of home security measures endorsed by local officials.
Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) has joined forced with the Aylesbury Vale Community Safety Partnership to offer locals free advice about various measures that can help them feel safer in their homes.
In addition to providing free window locks and smoke alarms, advisors working for the Hard Target project will also encourage homeowners to consider additional security measures such as installing reinforced double glazing and garden lights.
Commenting on the success of the programme, councillor and AVDC cabinet member Pam Pearce noted that of the nearly 100 burglary victims referred to the scheme by Thames Valley Police, not one has so far been subjected to a repeated break-in.
"This scheme will help put the minds of our most vulnerable residents at rest," she told the Bucks Herald. "It's another piece in the jigsaw of reducing crime, particularly burglary - which is a crime that can have a devastating effect on any family."
