An eco-conscious and economical Manchester entrepreneur has chosen a rural caravan with modern double glazing as his family's weekend getaway.
Will Kintish, the owner of a networking training company, is one of a number of second-home seekers who are 'bucking the trend' in the face of Home Improvement Packs and the credit crunch.
Costing £50,000, the caravan in the Yorkshire Dales has cosy central heating as well as energy-saving double glazing and "lots of sheep", according to the owner.
"It has been the best thing we've ever done - it is like being on a different planet," Mr Kintish told Crain's Manchester Business.
"All the strains and stresses of the world are taken away," he added, referring to his family's cosy weekend escape from noise pollution and other city woes.
The residents of a dilapidated Oxford housing estate also recently expressed their delight at the prospect of moving into new homes with double glazing and "a bit more warmth".
According to the Oxford Mail, the Rose Hill area's original post-war houses were designed to last just a decade, with inadequate windows and insulation creating a substantial chill for inhabitants.
