A new Code of Conduct from the government watchdog energywatch has set out its basic expectations of online gas and electricity comparison services.
According to consumer watchdog Which? the initiative should help consumers to be able to switch their supplier with confidence about the information they are being given.
Which? operates its own comparison service, which is free to consumers.
"Which? welcomes the energywatch initiative to set out the minimum standards required of online gas and electricity comparison services," said Which?'s Chris Gardner.
"We look forward to energywatch enforcing the principles set out in the new code, allowing all consumers the opportunity to switch suppliers with confidence."
Many people find that another way to cut down on their energy bills is to install better insulation in their home.
