A new government website will show levels of noise pollution around the country in a bid to tackle urban noise pollution, it has emerged.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' (Defra) maps will highlight areas that suffer noise pollution from major industries, road and rail networks in 23 of England's urban areas.
Environment minister Jonathan Shaw said: " These maps provide the most comprehensive snapshot yet of noise in our country, all at the click of a mouse.
"They will provide a springboard to go forward and tackle unnecessary and unreasonable noise pollution."
He concluded his department will then draw up plans to reduce noise where it is practical and protect designated quiet areas from an increase in noise.
Meanwhile, it was reported last week that supermodel Elle Macpherson is turning her back on London and moving to her native Australia due to the capital city's noise pollution levels.
