Home improvements such as the installation of double glazing windows can affect the value of property and make it more attractive to buyers, it has been reported.
Eco-homes features are top of the list for buyers who will be willing to pay more for an environmentally-friendly property instead of one that has received a new lick of paint, according to the Yorkshire Post.
Commentator Grant Woodward wrote in the publication that more than two-thirds of house-hunters look past "cosmetic" improvements and instead are more concerned about double glazing, insulation and other green homes features, which can cut down the cost of energy bills.
Leeds estate agent Alan Cooke told the newspaper: "Everyone is looking to make savings at the moment and if they can see that a house will cost less to run than another it's a big selling point."
The report concludes insulation is an inexpensive way of preserving energy while double glazing windows can cut lost heat in the home by half.
It was reported last week by Property Week that the University Partnerships Programme has begun work on a new green homes student residence at Leeds Metropolitan University's Headingley campus.
