Replacing old windows with double glazing has been named as one of the best ways to increase the value of your home.
According to loans4.co.uk, swapping them with new glass panels will not only make the house look brighter and more modern, but it will also "affect the light, heat and comfort levels in your home".
Double glazing can also help to make the property more energy efficient and therefore more attractive to potential buyers.
A separate survey has revealed that many Brits are already thinking about energy efficient measures which can cut costs and make their home more eye-catching to house hunters.
According to ThinkProperty.com, 70 per cent of home owners have double glazing, 60 per cent have roof insulation, 57 per cent use energy efficient light bulbs and 40 per cent have purchased a fuel efficient boiler.
But although changing your windows can enhance the saleability of your home, those in the industry have mixed views over whether plastic or glass is best.
Tim Le Blanc-Smith, an estate agent at John D Wood, told Findaproperty.com: "Some people, especially the English, loathe uPVC, although it's pretty practical.
"It can reduce the marketability by the amount it costs to replace them."
However, Moore & York valuations expert Nick Komodromos told the website: "First-time buyers looking at a small terrace house don't have the spare cash to renovate windows and don't want to be decorating.
"Original windows would make a property of this sort a bit less saleable."
