Residents of east Lancashire are being told that a new security lock developed specifically for double glazing can reduce the risk of being burgled.
The No Go Glass Lock is intended to reinforce double glazed fittings that are ten to 20 years old and is the brainchild of inventors Colin Burgess and David Murphy.
Older uPVC windows that rely on external beading can be quickly and stealthily removed by criminals, leading to countless burglaries in the area and raising safety concerns among local resident.
While experts insist the best way to tackle the problem is to have fixtures professionally re-installed by a Trust Mark-endorsed fitter such as Safestyle, it is hoped that in the short term the new locks will provide an added sense of security to jittery locals.
"There are literally millions of homes throughout UK that have double glazing that have external beading on the outside of the window pane," noted Steve Dobson, director of No Go, the firm releasing the lock.
He added: "To experienced burglars this type of double glazing makes unauthorised access through any window pane in many cases as simple as opening an unlocked door."
