Draughts in country houses can be prevented by installing double glazing, it has been claimed.

According to Country Life magazine, the eco-friendly measure improves insulation and helps keep older properties warm.

It reported that many owners of large rural homes struggle to afford the costs of heating them.

Jo Aldridge, of Stacks Property Search and Acquisition, told the magazine that buyers should consider the limitations of fireplaces, saying wood-burning stoves were becoming more popular as they use less fuel and give out more heat.

She added that owners must think about how they will heat a country home in the middle of winter.

Meanwhile, a review of a top London hotel has commended its decision to have double glazing installed.

Writing in the Times, Lucy Tobin said that the Lanesborough Hotel, on Hyde Park Corner, had double glazing which blocked out all busy street noise.
