Homeowners are being urged to "stop throwing money out of the window" and install double glazing.

The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) claims those who live in properties which are single glazed or had double glazing installed before April 2002 could be losing heat and subsequently paying more in energy costs.

According to the trade association, the British Federation Ratings Council has launched a new ratings system to help those making home improvements chose energy efficient windows.

The GGF said in a statement: "All windows are rated from A to E with A being the most energy efficient. This labelling allows householders to simply and quickly compare the energy efficiency of competing products."

It was reported by the Bucks Herald last week that Chardon residents Peter and Anne Watts decided to install double glazing as a means of improving their home's insulation.

The couple told the publication the home improvements have helped them cut down on energy costs.

Double glazing windows and doors can increase the value of your property, as well as saving you money on your heating bills. Take a look at some of the Energy Efficiency-certified windows and doors on the Safestyle website.
