A west London marketing executive has spoken of the savings she made after installing double glazing windows at her home.
Helen Williams, 28, from Fulham, spent £500 on double glazing about six months ago and is already seeing a noticeable saving on her quarterly energy bills, the Sun reports.
She told the publication that she took notice when energy companies announced price rises earlier in the year.
"When I made a point to check my last gas bill though, after installing the new windows, it was satisfying to see a real saving and I know this will add up over time," she added.
"[I] have already noticed less of a need to turn the heating up."
Robert McKinnon, of the Energy Saving Trust, added that home improvements such as the installation of cavity wall and loft insulation can cut bills by a further "£250 per year".
Meanwhile, Hilary Benn, the secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs, suggested that reduced-cost loans "should" be introduced to support home improvements for energy-efficient properties last week.
