The installation of double glazing windows is an easy way to improve energy efficiency while saving money on bills, it has been reported.
According to the Manchester Evening News, home improvements such as installing double glazing and loft insulation are good ways to reduce wasted power and save on quarterly energy bills.
In an article tailored towards those who want to live in eco homes, the publication offered a number of energy-saving tips that also included making sure computers are always switched off and not on standby and the use of energy-saving lightbulbs.
"[Double glazing is] an easy way to be energy efficient as poorly insulated windows can account for up to one fifth of heat lost from the office or home," stated the newspaper.
It continued: "Double glazing can cut this figure by half, saving as much as £100 a year."
The publication concluded that insulation is an inexpensive way to knock off £110 a year from energy bills as an estimated 15 per cent of energy is lost through roofs without insulation.
Meanwhile, Irish energy minister Eamon Ryan announced last month that home improvements grants are to be launched to help households become more energy efficient.
