Britons are still keen to carry out expensive improvements such as fitting double glazing on their properties.
This is the opinion of Julia Goodwin, editor at House Beautiful magazine, who said people are deciding to stay in their homes for longer because of the current economic climate. That is why they seek to carry out DIY home improvements that will add value to the property such as installing double glazing.
"Last year was all about people tightening their belts and not spending anything, but towards the end of this year – and hopefully it will go through into next year – people are starting to take on the slightly bigger projects. These projects include work that will add considerable value to the property such as fitting double glazing," she explained.
Ms Goodwin added that the days of painting property beige in an attempt to increase its value are well and truly over. It is home improvements such as having double glazing fitted that will trully add value to a property.
Research published by Aspect Maintenance earlier this month revealed that 70 per cent of Londoners intend to carry out work on their home over the next 12 months.
Of those polled, 14 per cent said they plan to sell the property once this has been completed.
That is also another reason for them to carry out home improvements such as change the house’s insulation or have the old windows replaced by double glazing.
Those carrying out home improvement work can protect their personal belongings by placing them in storage.
