Southend Adult Community College is holding a celebration breakfast on Tuesday to celebrate completion of major building works and winning a prestigious award.
The work that was carried out aimed at improving the quality of the student’s learning environment. New double glazing windows were fitted in order to keep the classroom’s warmer during the winter months; thus creating a more comfortable environment for the students to work in. New classrooms have been built to give the students more learning space.
The college, in Ambleside Drive, is the only council-run adult community college in the country to receive the Beacon status award from the Learning and Skills Council for the quality of its education.
The event will also be the official opening of its new look building after a complete revamp of its 100-year-old building, which was originally South-church Hall High School for Boys. There is a new reception area, improved teaching areas, double glazing, art gallery exhibition space and three new classrooms.
College principal Ali Hadawi said: “We are delighted to have received our Beacon status, which is due to the incredible effort and commitment of our staff and students. We are also very proud to unveil our newly revamped building to the public eye. We strived to improve the students’ learning environment by fitting double glazing and opening an art gallery exhibition space. Not only will the classrooms be warmer, but the college’s art gallery will also provide a more pleasant environment for students to work in.”
“It shows the college is an exemplary provider of education and training for the area and, with our ourstanding Ofsted inspection, it places us in the top 4 per cent of adult colleges.”
