DIY projects are set to see a growth as a result of the recession as more people look to save money by doing small home repairs, according to IQ Living. This is particularly true for work like fitting double glazing as such home improvements contribute to making a home more energy efficient and can substantialy increase a property’s value.
The bathroom product company expects a large increase in the number of people buying accessories and spare parts in the coming months.
It believes that customers will be wary of shelling out hundreds on a new shower unit as a result of something like a broken bracket, when they can simply buy a replacement at a small cost and repair it themselves. It is also believed that energy efficient products such as double glazing and wall insulation are also becoming increasingly popular, because not only do they contribute to saving energy, they also add considerable resale value to a property.
E-commerce manager of the business Michael Core explained: "Many of the 'little' jobs in the bathroom are easily done by the average person, you don't necessarily need a specialist to come in and fit a new shower head."
A survey carried out at the National Home Improvement Show in September revealed that 91.3 per cent of respondents were looking to begin a home improvement project within the coming year, with 56.6 per cent wanting to make their homes more comfortable to live in. That is why they carry out home improvements such as fitting double glazing or installing an energy efficient boiler.
