An increasing number of British homeowners are carrying out DIY projects in order to make their houses more comfortable and personal, rather than for financial reasons, according to Kingfisher.
That is why there has been an increase in the number of people carrying out home improvements such as fit double glazing or cavity wall insulation.
It was recently revealed in a quarterly trading update that the company-owned home improvement store B&Q saw a 6.3 per cent increase in sales during the third quarter of 2009. This is particularly true for home improvements that make the home more comfortable such as installing double glazing.
Kingfisher's chief executive Ian Fisher said that the results show Brits who are unable to move house are taking more time to customise their own homes instead with home improvements such as having double glazing fitted.
"It is indicative of people trading out of specialists and into us and wanting to refresh their homes while waiting to move ... they're using their houses as a home rather than as a financial instrument," he commented.
Home improvements such as fitting double glazing do not only contribute to adding resale value to a property, they also add unvaluable aesthetic value to the home. This is also a sign that DIY enthuthiasts are looking to add cofort and aesthetic value to their property as well as contributing to increase the home’s overal financial value.
