Brits looking for DIY tips on how to make their homes more eco-friendly could find inspiration after a Barnet council house was recognised in the latest National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) Awards. This will undoubtedly contribute to people carrying out more energy effivient DIY tasks such as fitting double glazing or installing an eco-friendly boiler.
According to the Green Building Press, a property in the Barnet's Berkeley Crescent took second place in the big green home improvement category due to its energy-efficient appliances, solar panels, composter, tap flow limiters, double glazing windows and loft and under-floor insulation.
Richard Cornelius, Barnet's cabinet member for community services, commented that the house could help homeowners carry out their own green upgrades. He sees at as a source of inspiration for DIYers as it will motivate them to carry out home improvements like fit double glazing windows.
"I am delighted that the eco-house has been recognised nationally. It shows lots of ideas as to what can be done with a typical house to minimise carbon pollution and save on expensive electricity and gas bills. The home improvements that can be carried out to make a property more eco-friendly range from fitting double glazing to installing an energy efficient boiler." he said.
The NHIC aims to promote the benefits of home improvement schemes to Britons, represent the renovation industry and encourage private investment in the housing sector.
