Latest Double Glazing News

Many years of battle between rogue double glazing traders and homeowners could now be a thing of the past with the launch of the industry’s first ombudsman scheme (DGCOS – Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme) which went live on the 4th May 2010 after 4 years of research and a further 2 year pilot.
Customers who find a double glazing company through the new association (website at dgcos.org.uk) can be assured that the company has been through a 12 point vetting process to ensure that it meets the Ombudsman’s quality guidelines. The founding director of the new ombudsman, Tony Pickup, states that some double glazing companies will really have to improve their game while others will be happy that such a service now exists that shows the quality of their products and services.

The new ombudsman brings with it many benefits, including when you make a deposit with a DGCOS approved member, you deposit will be fully guaranteed by the association itself to up to 25% of the contract price (to a maximum of £12 500). The association also offers a dispute resolution service which is free of charge for the customer. Should the dispute be unable to be resolved, it will be referred to the service’s ombudsman whose decision is final and legally binding.

In an industry totalling approximately 13 000 firms, DGCOS has started with only 36 founding members with a further 126 still in the application process.
