An 80-year-old parish hall is about to reopen and celebrate a new lease of life following a major refurbishment. This refurbishment aimed at making the hall a more comfortable place for people to meet. The work has included fitting double glazing and a new energy efficient boiler.
The hall at Little Hereford has been transformed with a new rear entrance, coupled with disabled and baby facilities.

It is now fully insulated and fitted with double glazing windows while the surrounding area has been landscaped.

The aim has also been to leave the building’s distinctive character unaffected. That is why the parish the materials used to restore, such as double glazing windows, the parish hall were designed to fit in with the style of the building.

Work was made possible by donations from the Big Lottery Fund (£118,000), Welcome to Our Future (£20,000), Herefordshire Council (£15,000) and also the Mercers’ Company (£1,500).
Little Hereford residents raised £35,000 through a series of events.

“It is a wonderful achievement which I never believed was possible and the hall will now serve the community for another 80 years,” said Eva Thomas, chair of the Parish Hall Committee.

“I wish to thank all those involved, including our funders, Community First for their advice and everyone in the village for their loyal support. What’s more we have also strived to use eco-friendly building materials such as double glazing to carry out the refurbishment work.”

The hall will reopen to the public later this week, with various events such as a community Christmas Lunch due to be organised in the coming weeks.
