A village hall is set to undergo a major refit following a survey of local residents.
Pattishall Parish Hall will get the overhaul after a consultation by the parish council revealed residents had it at the top of their list of priorities for the village. The refurbishment work that will be carried out include fitting a new boiler and double glazing windows.

The project received a boost from South Northamptonshire Council earlier this month when it gave the Patishall Parish Hall Association a grant of £4,500 to fund the refit of the kitchen.

This will herald the start of the renovation work, which will cost around £300,000 and will see the toilets refurbished an extension to the small hall and large hall, new lighting, flooring and double glazing installed.

The ambitious plans have been put into place after people in the village asked for the parish hall to be renovated.

Iris Ilingworth, chairman of the Pattishall Parish Hall Association, said: “The parish council has just formulated a parish plan in 2007 for Pattishall and the surrounding villages and following the questionnaires, one of the things that people wanted in the village the most was an improved parish hall. That is why we are looking to make the village hall a more comfortable place by fitting better insulation and double glazing.”

The association has also had a further boost with Pattishall Parish Council pledging £5,000 from 2011 for the next five years. It will also be looking to put on fundraising events to raise the extra cash and are looking at grant funding.

Mrs Illingworth added: “The parish represents five villages and we do not have a lot of facilities. That is why we strive to make it a more convenient place for people to meet. Our priority is to improve the building’s insulation by fitting double glazing to the building.”

“It is a parish hall that has been standing for 30 years and there are a lot of things that need doing, so we have decided to have them done in one go.”

Work on the kitchen refurbishment is set to start in the New Year but no timescale has yet been announced when it will be finished. There is no firm date for when work will start on the other projects.
