Consumers in the east Midlands are being taught how to become more energy-efficient thanks to a grant from a leading energy company. On this course, the consumers will learn about the energy efficiency properties of materials like double glazing windows and cavity wall insulation.

E.ON has donated £4,800 from its sustainable energy fund to Watnall Women's Institute (WI) Hall, with the cash being used to install an insulated suspended ceiling and fit new double glazing windows.
Once they are added to the building, the double glazing windows and the cavity wall insulation will limit the amount of space inside the hall that needs to be heated, thus requiring less power and saving the WI money on their energy bills.

The rest of the money will go towards new double glazing in the hall, which will ensure that generated heat cannot escape through the windows.

E.ON's community relations executive Tony Jenkin Jones said the company is "absolutely delighted" to award the funding, which will help the local WI "improve the building’s insulation by having double glazing fitted to the building in order to reduce their impact on the environment and to save on costs".

Earlier this year, E.ON launched its own channel on video-sharing website YouTube, with it hoping to generate debate about Britain's energy issues.
