Bids have been tendered for the chance to build one of the UK's ten eco towns in Cambridge.
Denny St Francis, near Waterbeach, is set to have about 10,000 new homes and could employ 4,000 people, according to the Cambridge News.
Original government plans cited the area of Northstowe as being the location of the region's new eco town, during his campaign for leadership of the Labour party.
This plan could now be shelved as the government has downgraded the Northstowe project in favour of others.
Consortium RLW, which involves The Royal London Group, Turnstone Estates and the local St John's College, has renewed plans to develop Waterbeach with a formal bid.
Turnstone managing director Chris Goldsmith said: "While it is too early to say whether Denny St Francis will be selected as an eco-town, RLW is pleased to be working on proposals to create an environmentally sustainable settlement."
Last October, housing minister Yvette Cooper said while eco towns were important for the future, they should be unique to each other.
