British homeowners pay close attention to the environmental qualities of property when choosing a new house, according to a new survey from Halifax.
The study suggests that eco-friendly properties will attract more buyers, with 56 per cent of respondents stating that fuel and energy-saving measures are a major factor when selecting the right home.
"When considering their ideal home Brits don't just want their surroundings to be green, they are also thinking about the impact of their home on the environment," the Halifax report states.
The government's recent introduction of home information packs is intended to make it easier for property buyers to evaluate a home by giving dwellings "fridge-style" energy efficiency ratings.
Insulation is the easiest way homeowners can increase the marketability of their property, with a simple move such as installing double glazing not just adding value to their home but also cutting down on energy waste and so lowering heating bills.
According to the National Insulation Association, 13 million British homes currently have inadequate insulation.
