Ten new environmentally-friendly properties are expected to go on sale in Prestwich, Lancashire, this month, all of which benefit from a number of green features.

Each home has either a wind turbine to generate electricity or solar panels to heat water and it is estimated that the new homeowners will save up to one third on their energy bills, the Bury Times reports.

Properties will have water butts, recycling bins, state-of-the-art insulation and air recycling systems to reduce reliance on gas central heating.

In addition, the homes have been made from eco-friendly timber and organic paint, and any leftover builders' material will be regenerated.

Ken Whitaker, managing director of property firm Inspired Developments, pointed out that eco-friendly homes do not have to be "boring and unattractive".

"We wanted to offer home-hunters the opportunity to live in an attractive yet highly efficient property that would provide a sustainable future for its owners," he explained.

The properties are expected to go on the market at upwards of £245,000.
