Derbyshire families are set to benefit from ten environmentally friendly homes which are to be built as art of the Hands Road project in Heanor.

The project aims to build the home using innovative eco-friendly timber techniques for the walls, with development firm Robert Woodhead aiming to have the homes completed by the spring.

Using this technique means a high level of insulation in the walls helps lower the buildings' carbon footprint, cutting heating requirements and lowering bills for tenants.

Amber Valley Housing, part of the Quantum consortium, is leading the project.

According to 24dash.com, Martin Sherman, director of asset management and development, said: "Quantum is meeting tomorrow's building standards today, using the cutting edge of eco-friendly design, benefiting everyone by lessening the impact on the environment.

"It is great news that all ten homes can now be rented out and the families who move in will enjoy warm, secure homes with reduced heating bills."

The ten homes will be rented out to families on the council's housing waiting list.
