A new housing development will open its doors this bank holiday weekend to people looking to buy eco homes, it has been reported.

Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) has invited would-be housebuyers to take a look at the "exciting" site open for viewing from Saturday (May 3rd) to Monday (May 5th).

The two and three bedroom eco homes will feature double glazing windows and loft and wall insulation, according to 24dash.

A company statement said: "[We] have recognised the importance of protecting the environment."

It added that the development, which has been built by using timber from renewable resources, is on track to receive the government code for sustainable homes level three rating.

Kevin Dodd, chief executive of WDH, added: "We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to live in a home that they are proud of. And through this exciting new development we can offer a range of properties which people can buy outright or through shared ownership."

Meanwhile, the World Wildlife Fund suggested last month that making homes more energy-efficient through insulation and double glazing is a key way to bring down the country's carbon footprint.

- With Energy Efficiency windows supplied as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality double glazed windows to suit your home.
