A world record-breaking yachtswoman is on a voyage to save energy through home improvements, it has been reported.
Ellen MacArthur has highlighted the different home improvements people can make in order for their houses to be more energy efficient.
Writing in Dergy's Evening Telegraph, Dame Ellen spoke about the importance insulation can play when transforming properties into eco homes.
She said: "Insulation will not only keep you warm in the winter but will also keep that baking heat absorbed by your tiles in the blazing sun, in the tiles and out of your building.
"The Energy Saving Trust points out that insulating your home is one of the most effective ways of improving its energy efficiency. For example, insulating a loft can save around £110 - and just under one tonne of carbon dioxide - a year."
Another way to make a home greener is through the installation of double glazing windows that can also block out noise pollution and reduce energy costs.
Ms MacArthur broke the world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of the globe on February 7th 2005.
