The European Union (EU) has announced new plans to enable member states to offer tax breaks for local service businesses carrying out home improvements such as the installation of double glazing windows, it has been reported.
Under the new rule all 27 EU countries will be able to lower VAT rates to all housing services, in a move which the European Commission believes will help boost energy efficiency, according to the BBC.
"The proposal covers home improvements carried out to increase energy efficiency, such as installation of thermal insulation and double glazing," the report detailed.
EU tax commissioner Laszlo Kovacs wants to provide "certainty" about reduced rates beyond 2010 for labour-intensive sectors to make it equal.
It was reported by Sky News last month that new government proposals could force Britons carrying out home improvements to improve the energy efficiency of their property.
The green homes plans will affect households carrying out renovations, in order to meet an EU target which is aimed at ensuring all member nations obtain 15 per cent of their energy through renewable sources by 2010.
With Energy Efficiency windows supplied as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality double glazed windows to suit your home.
