A garden can be a significant boost to property value, with almost eight out of ten people prepared to pay more for a home with one, a survey has revealed.
On average, someone looking for a home would be willing to pay an extra £10,000 for a garden, but almost one in 20 people prepared to pay more would be ready to pay a premium of at least £30,000.
Nearly nine out of ten people aged 35-44 would be willing to put up extra money for a house with a garden, compared to only two-thirds of 16 to 24-year-olds, according to the Halifax Estate Agents study.
Seven out of ten Londoners and people from Yorkshire and Humberside would pay for a garden in a new home, but this rises to 87 per cent in the north of England and 85 per cent in Wales.
Colin Kemp, managing director of Halifax Estate Agents, said: "Our research shows that many of us will pay a premium for a property with a garden.
"Making the most of your home's outside space could add real value and maximise any sale price."
