Up to £100 million is to be pumped into making the UK's homes more eco-friendly, the government has said.
The Energy Savings Trust will be used to improve energy efficiency in residences across the country by helping to fund new green measures.
This will include experts being able to advise homeowners on how to reduce water and energy consumption as well as giving information on recycling.
Launching the Green Homes Service yesterday, environment secretary Hilary Benn said: "When it comes to cutting your carbon footprint, the old adage 'there's no place like home' really is true.
"We need to make this as easy as possible for people to do. There's a lot of help out there in the form of grants, advice, and other assistance, but it's hard to know where to start."
The government has pledged to make 150,000 homes carbon neutral by 2011 but officials say this cannot be done without adequate funding.
Mr Benn described the new service as a "one stop shop" which will eliminate the confusion surrounding energy efficiency.
