Green Moves UK revealed that as land prices fall as a result of the credit crunch, self builds have been gaining popularity of late and planners are looking favourably on eco builds, so it is a good time to build an eco home.

Julian Brooks, managing director of the firm, said it had seen a growing number of people on its property alerts seeking an eco-plot or property to convert into a greener home.

There are a number of ways to convert properties into eco homes, these include the installation of double glazing windows and loft insulation.

According to the Ecology Building Society, its green lending doubled in 2007 as it reached £15 million compare to £7.7 million in 2006.
