Tips on maximising the use of upvc windows in the construction of green homes have been offered by industry experts.
Window manufacturers and advisers got together at a UK seminar to outline key considerations in the specification of sustainable upvc windows, particularly in the wake of official window energy ratings and the government's code for green homes.
"There seems to be some confusion in the building industry about the best way forward in terms of sustainable windows," window fabricator Dave Glendinning explained to Buildingtalk.
"Our seminar aimed to tackle the key issues head-on, including why window energy ratings cannot be ignored and must be considered along with U-values, plus how upvc frames can offer the most sustainable choice providing the right system is used," he added.
In recent weeks, an eco-conscious Wigan advocate of upvc windows also called for more of the UK's terraced houses to have them installed.
Adrian Whitling singled out less noise pollution and improved home security as just two of the reasons for such a development.
