A new development is being hailed as a potential green housing model for housebuilders across the UK.
The New Inn housing development in Clayton, east Manchester, is the first phase of a large regeneration project which will provide over 130 energy-efficient, eco-friendly homes.
Four three-bedroom homes have been completed so far and the properties have been praised for their use of modern construction methods, recycled building supplies and renewable energy sources, the Bolton News reports.
The south-facing roofs have been fitted with solar panels to absorb solar radiation and transfer energy into the pipework.
"Not only is the system reducing carbon emissions, but it costs nothing to run and therefore contributes to reducing the energy bills of all New Inn residents," said Peter Jackson, operations director at G&J Seddon, the construction company responsible for the development.
The Bolton-based company was invited to showcase the development at the It's Green Up North conference last month, organised by the National Housing Federation.
The conference showcases work done across the north of England which exceeds current environmental standards.
