A £1 million housing development project in County Durham looks set to attract more environmentally-friendly homeowners, the Teesdale Mercury reports.
MP Helen Goodman revealed the new green estate in Barnard Castle as part of the government's green housing initiative.
The estate comprises ten two-bed apartments all specially designed to improve insulation through a special timber frame system.
It will not only help to reduce energy bills but will help to reduce help keep households' carbon footprint down.
At the opening of the estate, Ms Goodman, the deputy leader of the House of Commons, said: "It's just what we need in Teesdale as there is a shortage of quality, affordable housing in the area.
"I am particularly pleased with the high environmental standards of this development, and I welcome the addition of further social housing, which is essential to maintain the vitality of the area".
