Residents in one Hampshire borough are benefiting from council green funds to help with home improvements.
Leaders in Eastleigh outlined their intentions to help tackle climate change, as well as save people money on heating bills, by establishing a carbon dioxide 'offsetting' fund.
Councillor Keith House told the eGov website that CarbonFREE - the Carbon Fund for Reduction of Emissions in Eastleigh - has been kickstarted with a £50,000 investment.
"The council's contribution will lead to insulation projects to save 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide," he explained.
He added that the fund will initially be used to insulate homes and community buildings "most in need" as they are where greater carbon dioxide savings can be made.
As part of the home improvements drive, thermal imaging photography of the borough will be carried out in order to identify which buildings are most in need of insulation.
Local authorities in the West Yorkshire borough of Kirklees also recently made an interactive thermal map to show residents how much energy they waste through poor insulation, with heat-sensitive cameras attached to airborne vehicles to create the high-tech map.
