The UK's elderly residents are being urged to avail of grants to help towards the costs of insulation.
As part of the government's Warm Front initiative, people in receipt of pension credit can apply for the help, to boost both the heat and energy efficiency of their homes.
Pensions minister Mike O'Brien explained that up to £1 in every £3 spent on heating bills is wasted in poorly-insulated homes.
"If you own your own home or rent it from a private landlord, you may be eligible for a free grant to insulate your walls and loft," he said.
Mr O'Brien added that recent well-publicised increases in energy prices have made it "more important than ever" for households to make use of all the help available to them to keep warmth inside.
Environment minister Phil Woolas also remarked that effective insulation or a boiler update can make a "big difference" to utility bills by ensuring energy is used more effectively.
Just last week, environmental group the Renewable Energy Centre called for more help towards people's energy-saving efforts, with loft and cavity wall insulation presenting a potential saving of over £100 per year in heating bills.
