A trio of green groups have called upon the government not to delay the introduction of energy performance certificates (EPCs).

MPs will today vote on whether or not to delay the introduction of home information packs, which are set to be introduced on June 1st.

Within the pack, each home must have an independently-assessed energy rating which forms part of the EPC.

Friends of the Earth, World Wildlife Fund UK and the Campaign to Protect Rural England have all urged the government not to delay this energy-saving measure.

Dave Timms, green homes campaigner at Friends of the Earth, said: "Our homes are responsible for around a quarter of UK carbon dioxide emissions. EPCs will help householders cut fuel bills and help tackle climate change."

The news comes after Liberal Democrat Mark Oaten tabled an early-day motion to recommend the government cuts VAT on double glazing to five per cent.

Investing in double glazing can help make a home greener, less expensive to heat and more attractive to buyers.
