The growing trend for planet-friendly home improvements is being led by the UK's 'grey-greens', it has been claimed.
Writing for redorbit.com, eco homes aficionado Yvonne Cook explained that a large cross-section of retired and middle-aged people is pioneering the installation of renewable and low-carbon energy sources.
She noted, however, that research suggests more needs to be done to encourage the uptake of eco-friendly energy sources, as well as money-savers such as double glazing and insulation.
"Government figures suggest that in 2005 there were about 82,000 UK households adopting microgeneration technologies, out of about 25 million households in total," confirmed Robin Roy, a design professor who leads a research team at the Open University.
He told Ms Cook that there is a danger the UK will fall behind the rest of Europe if more people do not look towards green home improvements.
Following the recent publication of a government report into the nation's heating needs, environmental group the Renewable Energy Centre called for more financial help towards people's energy-saving efforts.
With Energy Efficiency products supplied as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality double glazed front doors to suit your home.
