Creating more eco homes in the UK will serve to integrate communities as well as tackle carbon emissions, it has been suggested.
In a new set of worksheets unveiled by the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) this week, the organisation provides guidance for planners regarding the development of towns comprised entirely of green homes.
Unveiling the worksheets alongside communities secretary Hazel Blears, TCPA chief executive Gideon Amos proposed that planners look towards "entirely new" infrastructures rather than those in existing urban locations.
"Eco towns, because they are new settlements, present opportunities to create a different kind of town from scratch, meeting the highest standards in terms of sustainable development and minimising carbon footprints, social justice and inclusive communities," remarked Mr Amos.
The developers responsible for a new selection of green homes in Wales demonstrated the effectiveness of dedicated eco towns this month when they received an 'excellent' rating under environmental assessment method Breeam.
High-quality windows, double glazed doors and "superior" insulation were just some of the houses' eco-friendly features singled out for praise by assessors.
With Energy Efficiency windows and doors as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality windows and doors to suit your home.
