According to a recent study by EDF Energy and the Energy Futures Lab at Imperial College London, the report found that the British are the best energy savers in Europe. Over 70% of the UK has loft insulation and an additional 70% have secondary or double glazing. However, we are ranked below Europe when it comes to sustainability. Spain came out on top in this category whilst the UK came sixth out of 10 European nations assessed in this report.

The Chief Operating Officer at EDF Energy, Eva Eisenschimmel, suggested that in order for people to become energy efficient, they should make sure that they have a modern boiler that is serviced regularly. You can also decide whether your home is powered by renewable energy sources and low carbon electricity, as well as choices about the management of electrical appliances around the home. Just by making sure that you don’t waste electricity through leaving your TV, DVD player, HiFi, etc, on standby overnight can make a big difference to your electricity bill. Installing double glazing and loft insulation can help you save a considerable sum of money on your energy and gas bills.
