In the current economic climate a large percentage of property owners, especially developers, are attempting to increase the environmentally friendly aspects of their portfolio in order to further appeal to potential tenants and buyers. Making buildings more energy efficient with the installation of double glazing and proper insulation can make a property much more appealing to any potential suitor.
The building industry contributes around 40% of all the UK’s carbon emissions, according to the UK Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change. It’s a must that energy efficient renovations are made and materials used if the industry wants to reduce its carbon footprint in years to come. However, new buildings make up only 2% of all stock in Britain and it’s therefore important to focus on making older buildings more eco-friendly and energy efficient.
Once features such as double glazing and cavity wall insulation are installed in a building, energy efficiency is far easier to manage. By contributing to the overall insulation of the building, heat loss is massively reduced and far more heat is retained within. The implementation of such features will not only increase the market value of a building but will also reduce maintenance and utility costs.
Not only will a building become more marketable due to decreased running costs but modern uPVC double glazing can be a design feature as well. Windows can be matched to any building type whether it be period or new build and they can even be tailored to become a feature in themselves.
With decreased running costs, increased marketability and the increased awareness of energy efficiency and eco-friendliness; double glazing isn’t just a must in new build properties but an essential upgrade in old buildings too.
