A West Yorkshire street has been branded the host of more green homes than any other in the UK, it has been reported.
Residents living on Green Lane in Leeds have been hailed the eco-friendly in the land after a social experiment to reduce energy consumption, according to the BBC.
People living on the road have cut their energy by almost one-third after being given £30,000 at the beginning of the year to carry out a number of home improvements, including cavity wall insulation to turn their properties into eco homes.
Geoff Fawcett, a former teacher who lives on the street with his wife Ros, told the news provider it is "comforting" to know his road was leading the way.
"We will continue our efforts even after the competition because we can see no detriment to it. It benefits both of us and it could do for everyone else, it's just about changing habit and then gradually buying new appliances," he added.
Phil Bentley, of British Gas, added for every £3 spent on heating our homes £1 is wasted through poor insulation.
Meanwhile, it was reported by the Yorkshire Post earlier in the week that home improvements such as the installation of double glazing windows can affect the value of a property and make it more attractive to buyers.
Double glazing windows and doors can increase the value of your property, as well as saving you money on your heating bills. Take a look at some of the Energy Efficiency-certified windows and doors on the Safestyle website.
