The annual Halifax Home Improvement Survey has found that two thirds of 18 to 34-year-olds are making home improvements to their properties.
"Britain has become a nation of movers and improvers," said Halifax spokesman Patrick Sawdon.
The survey suggested that savvy homeowners were not just making the improvements to increase their own comfort, but also with a view to investing in the marketability of their home.
Half of respondents believed they could add up to £5,000 to the value of their property by making the changes.
One popular renovation among young professionals is installing double glazing, which not only increases the value of your property but also has other benefits such as reducing energy bills and blocking out unwanted noise.
Mr Sawdon lauded homeowners for "investing time and effort in improving their home," though he also cautioned against taking a DIY approach to significant jobs.
"Poorly executed home improvements can actually detract from the value of your property," the Halifax spokesman noted.
