The Queen could qualify for a double glazing grant in order to combat noise pollution caused by aircraft flying over her home, it has been suggested.
According to the Sunday Times, the residents of Windsor Castle will face an "island of noise" if government plans go ahead for runway expansion at Heathrow.
Following its retrieval of documents released under freedom of information laws, the newspaper discovered that the castle would be caught in a hotspot of noise pollution if a third runway were built at the base.
"The Queen faces the same problem that millions of Londoners face, which is more problems from noise right overhead, but the government might have picked on the wrong resident to place beneath an island of noise," Justine Greening, Tory MP for Putney, remarked to the paper.
Mr Greening, who obtained the Department for Transport documents, added that thousands of households "may well have to have substantial noise insulation" as a result of runway extension plans.
"Given that the Queen may be living in a noise hotspot, her own home may qualify for double glazing and noise insulation," he concluded.
