Home information packs (Hips) can cut costs and save consumers time, according to the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (Ahipp).

Ahipp states that the packs, which will become compulsory on June 1st, will "revolutionise" the process for purchasing a new house, as well as help prevent sales from falling through.

The association argues that first-time buyers can withdraw from buying a house as they have to pay for survey information, even though other prospective buyers may have already paid for identical studies to be carried out.

Ahipp states that Hips will prevent buyers from repeating these unnecessary searches as information will be provided "upfront - allowing for a more informed buying decision and a more efficient process".

Commenting on the association's claims, Mike Ockenden, director general of Ahipp, also said: "Providing a Hip at the time of viewing can significantly reduce the time between offer and exchange of contracts, but also minimise the window for gazumping, giving greater certainty for buyers and sellers alike".

Earlier this month, Ahipp said that Hips can also cut the time it takes to exchange contracts as information is provided at the beginning of the house buying process.

People looking to make their home more saleable can do so with the addition of double glazing.
